Tuesday, September 9, 2026, marks Health Empowerment Day, a national awareness day focused on helping health care patients become more confident, informed, and engaged in their health care decisions. The initiative encourages individuals to be their own health care advocate - taking an active role in managing their health by learning about preventive care, understanding treatment options, utilizing available health care resources, and asking questions that support better health outcomes.

At Albany Area Primary Health Care (AAPHC), we believe that empowered patients are healthier patients. When individuals have the knowledge, tools, and support they need to make informed healthcare decisions, they are better equipped to manage, prevent, and improve their overall well-being.

What Does Health Empowerment Mean?
Health empowerment is about giving patients the confidence to participate in their health care journey. It means understanding your health needs, communicating openly with your health care provider, and taking advantage of resources that help you make informed decisions about your care. Every step toward greater understanding can lead to better health.

Simple Ways to Take Charge of Your Health
Statistics show nearly two-thirds of adults find managing health care time-consuming and overwhelming. Together with your AAPHC health care team we can change that.

At AAPHC, our dedicated health care teams work alongside patients to provide education, guidance, and compassionate care every step of the way. We believe that health care works best when patients and providers partner together to achieve healthy outcomes.
