If you’ve tried dieting, exercise or other weight loss programs without lasting success, you are not alone. Losing even a modest amount of weight may help improve overall health and reduce the risk of obesity-related conditions. For many, weight is influenced by hormones, metabolism, and medical conditions – not just willpower. The addition of medically supervised weight management can be an important part of improving quality of life.

GLP-1 medications (medications such as Wegovy®, Zepbound® Kwikpen, and Foundayo) may help get your weight loss journey started. GLP-1 medications work with your body’s natural hormones to help you feel fuller longer, reduce hunger and cravings, and achieve sustainable weight loss when combined with lifestyle changes. It may also help improve your blood sugar control, reduce appetite and cravings, and improve overall metabolic health.

Recently the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program was launched with the goal of helping eligible Medicare patients learn whether a GLP-1 medication is an appropriate and effective option to help navigate their weight loss journey. Patients who have Medicare and meet the medical criteria for GLP-1 therapy may be eligible to participate in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program.

To sign up for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, an AAPHC Pharmacy team member can assist you with reviewing your insurance benefits to help determine your eligibility. Once eligibility is determined, our team will assist with any prior authorizations needed. Once approved, we’ll work with you and your health care provider to develop a medication management plan to help minimize interruptions in treatment.

Every patient’s situation is different. While we work hard to help you access treatment, participation in the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program does not guarantee insurance approval of long-term medication coverage or medication availability. As a partner in your comprehensive health journey, our team will explain your treatment options and any expected costs, schedule any follow-up appointments needed, and provide lifestyle recommendations to help you achieve your best results.

Insurance changes and coverage delays shouldn't stand in the way of your health goals. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program is designed to help eligible Medicare patients maintain continuity of care while we work through insurance and treatment options.

If you’ve never taken a GLP-1 medication before, that’s okay. The AAPHC Pharmacy team is here to guide you every step of the way. After seeing your provider and receiving a GLP-1 prescription in our pharmacy, a pharmacist will review your medical history and current medications with you, discuss your weight loss goals, explain how GLP-1 medication works, review possible benefits and side effects, help you understand your Medicare coverage, and the available treatment options. Afterwards, you will decide if a GLP-1 is the medication for you.
By working with the AAPHC Pharmacy team, you will have access to experienced providers who specialize in medical weight management, personalized treatment plans tailored to your health goals, dedicated staff to help navigate insurance questions and ongoing support throughout your weight loss journey.
