Chronic Disease Day is annually observed on July 10 as a national awareness and advocacy initiative dedicated to addressing the significant impact of chronic diseases in the US. The date represents a critical statistic: seven out of 10 deaths in the US are caused by chronic diseases – including heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

While the most frequently referred to types of chronic disease are cardiovascular, cancer and diabetes, the term really covers any long-lasting health condition (1 year or more) that requires ongoing medical attention or limits an individual’s daily activities. For example, the most common chronic conditions we see at AAPHC clinics include: COPD/emphysema, hypertension, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and arthritis.

One of the many reasons these diseases are prevalent in southwest Georgia is access to healthcare. At AAPHC, we have comprehensive services that provide care for patients from birth to geriatric care. We are committed to providing quality care for everyone.

Managing any chronic disease involves maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and partnering with your primary care provider. Diet, exercise, stress management, regular sleeping patterns, avoiding tobacco products, with preventive care and screenings have all proven to be effective means to reduce, delay and manage chronic diseases.
